The deadlines for River of Words and Letters About Literature, art and literary competitions that offer award opportunities for Colorado students, are quickly approaching. Entry forms are accessible through the Colorado Humanities & Center for the Book website at coloradohumanities.org. Deadlines are:
River of Words: Postmark by December 1, 2013
Letters About Literature: Postmark by December 10, 2013 for grades 9-12, Postmark by January 10, 2014 for grades 4-8

The Rocky Mountain Girls Fastpitch Association (RMGFA) held a “Bat-Aid” softball tournament on Saturday, November 2, at the Youth Memorial Sports Complex in Arvada. All of the money raised, a little over two thousand dollars, went directly to help the Lyons High School softball program and players impacted by the recent floods. Because of the flooding some softball players lost everything, and are still homeless. RMGFA President Robert Vasquez said, “After talking to several of the high school coaches our organization decided to lend a helping hand.” He added, “As a local organization we felt a huge responsibility to provide assistance.” Left to Right: Kyle Schuyler, Asst. High school seniors can apply to post secondary programs every day of the year. Most regular admission deadlines are in January or February, however to take advantage of financial support this series encourages a concentrated effort in November.
