The talented Lyons’ Middle School Cross-Country boys’ team traveled to the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield on October 19th to run in the Colorado Middle School State Championships. Several Lions ran in the boys’ open race of 115 runners with eighth grader, Chase Jonjak finishing 46th in 16:50 on the 2.25 mile
course, followed by Nathan Schneider (8th grade) 64th in 17:26, JT Roecker (6th grade) 97th in 19:17, and Nathan Radich (8th grade) 98th in 19:22.
In the championship race, Isaac Roberts crossed the finish line first for the Lions in 13:09 for 31st place overall. Despite a fall 400M into the race, Roberts holds the distinction of being the first 6th grader to finish the 345 strong race. Following were teammates Colton Jonjak-Plahn (7th grade) 86th place in 13:54, Nick Boggess (6th grade) 169th in 15:00, Landon Milbrath (8th grade) 179th in 15:11, Adam Crowl (8th grade) 195th in 15:20, Simon Stone (6th grade) 287th in 16:54, Angus Oakes (6th grade) 291st in 16:57, and Jordan Shackelford (6th grade) 330th in 18:34. Of forty-two teams, this young team of Lions placed an excellent 15th.
Lyons is blessed to have an outstanding middle school program, which serves as a tributary to the exceptional high school program. It will be exciting to watch the current runners develop and feed into the legacy of Lyons’ Cross-Country. Congratulations to Coaches Megan Roberts and Kevin Schafer and their young runners on a fabulous season!
