Now is the time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their town! Just a little paraphrasing there, but you get the idea. Budget Travel, a travel/vacation magazine is running a “Coolest Small Town in America” campaign, and Lyons is in the running to take top honors in the ultra-competitive West region. The magazine is asking people to go to their website and vote for their choice. The site is: www.budgettravel.com/bt-srv/coolestsmalltowns.

It’s very easy, you just enter the address, click on the star located in Colorado, and then click on the bar that reads “add to ballot” when the window pops up. Done! If you’re techno savvy, and you have a favorite photo depicting why Lyons is the “Coolest Small Town,” you can add that to the site too. If you care to log in and register, you can also add your comments on why Lyons is the “Coolest Small Town.”

Right now the site mentions:  the Double Gateway to the Rockies, the sandstone quarries, the historic buildings, the library, the museum, (this has got Lavern’s fingerprints all over it!), the Classic Pinball parlor, tubing down the St. Vrain, mountain biking, and hiking. But no mention of the vibrant musical scene here, nor the art.

As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Lyons had 298 votes, leading all western candidates, but still way behind Ely, Minnesota, and Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. Come on Lyonites! We can do better! What a great FREE way to help promote our town during these tough economic times. The magazine will do a feature article about the winning towns in 2010, this would be an excellent way to promote our town and help out all of our business owners. We all need to pull together, let the world know about the Outdoor Games, Good Old Days, Rocky Grass, Sounds of Lyons, Folkfest, the Halloween Parade, the Christmas Parade, South Creek Ltd., Oskar Blues, Hall Ranch, Heil Ranch, and all the other really cool things that truly make Lyons the “Coolest Small Town” in America. Of course, those of you who are into social networking (Face Book, My Space, Twitter etc.) can send the link out to all your “friends,” who have visited Lyons, and we’ll get people from all over the country in on this deal.
