“Perpetrator. A-h-h, language of origin? Could you use it in a sentence? Perpetrator, P-E-R-P-E-T-R-A-T-O-R. Perpetrator.” There you have it ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

Desta Soma, a fifth grader at Lyons Elementary School (LES) was the winner last week of the school's annual spelling bee. In a hotly contested

match Ms. Soma bested all comers.  Three other spellers who tied for second place; Sage Wynja, Emma Johnson, and Emma Bock. Spelling bee coordinator Nancy Parker congratulated all the young spellers for their efforts, noting that the competition at the school has never been tougher.

As the winner, Desta will be representing LES at the St. Vrain Valley School District spelling bee in Longmont later this month. If she wins there, it's on to Denver for the state spelling bee, and then who knows. We may see her on  ESPN vying for the national title.
