About fifty Lyons Elementary School students took place in the school's annual Discovery Fair last week. The students brought in their projects, then sat down with adult mentors and explained how they created their projects, and what it
meant to them. Thursday night, January 26, they held a reception for their family and friends to view the projects in the LES library.
Always popular with the kids, this year's Discovery Fair was especially fun. It focused on the students' interpretation of “What is Music.” The theme was designed to get students to think about the role music plays in their lives and how they relate to it. To go along with this year's Discovery Fair, the PTO is sponsoring an Artist-in-Residence series throughout the spring. Each month, a different musician or group will present their specific genre of music during a school-wide assembly along with customized programs for individual grade levels.
Popular local musician Arthur Lee Land was the first musician to kick off the series in January with his looping presentation. It was a huge hit with the kids. Next month, LES alum, Mr. Kneel will be bringing hip hop and beatbox music to LES.
