On Monday, May 22, service to Denver International Airport (DIA) from Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station via the AB bus route will begin. This service change is reflective of the City of Boulder’s and the US36 Mayors and Commissioners Coalition’s long-standing efforts to negotiate an increase in bus service from Boulder to Denver Airport. Increasing transit service to and from the region’s largest airport will enhance Boulder’s national and international connectivity, making traveling to and from Boulder – including the new Boulder Junction transit station - more convenient and accessible for local and regional residents and visitors alike.
The AB currently provides a direct route from the Downtown Boulder Station to Denver Airport by way of Broadway Avenue to US 36, then uses the Northwest Parkway for quick and reliable travel times to the airport. This route will continue to operate on
the current scheduled and be re-named as the “AB1.”
The new trips will operate as route “AB2” between Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station and Denver Airport, via 28th Street, with a stop on the east side of CU’s main campus, Table Mesa Park-n-Ride, continuing to US36, and the Northwest Parkway to the airport.
The upcoming service increase will add a total of four AB2 trips during peak travel hours, two in the morning peak and two in the afternoon peak periods. Routing these four airport trips from Boulder Junction with pick-up on 28th Street and CU will greatly expand the number of residents living within walking or bicycling distance of airport bus service. The routes will be timed to provide 30-minute frequency at the US36 & Table Mesa Station.
