Roy E. Reinholds, age 83, of Longmont died of pneumonia on March 8, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Mr. Reinholds was born in 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, to Carl and Arlene (Hallberg) Reinholds. After graduating from Lane Tech high school, Roy worked as a metallurgical lab technician for manufacturing companies in Chicago. He was drafted
into the United States Army and served in a preventative medicine survey detachment in Landstuhl, Germany from 1951 to 1953. Roy was a member of the Happy Whirlers Square Dance Club and was a performer on Chicago radio station WLS’s Barn Dance in the late 1950s.
Roy met Grace Billow in a Lutheran singles event in 1960 when they were both living in Chicago, she on the South Side working as a social worker, and he on the North Side. They married on June 21, 1965 in Urban, Pennsylvania. They lived in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. After their daughter was born, the family moved to a house in the northern suburbs in 1971.
After retiring from his chemical and mechanical quality control job at John Crane, Roy worked as part of the train crew at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. Roy enjoyed calling square dances, as well as traditional folk dances. He frequented the David Adler Cultural Center in Libertyville, and he hosted his own old-time square dance series at the Grayslake Park District.
The Reinholds family were members of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Grayslake, Illinois. They lived in Lake County, Illinois for 40 years, moving to the towns of Grayslake and Libertyville during retirement. Following the death of his wife in 2011, Roy moved to Longmont, Colorado, to be close to his daughter and her husband. Roy lived in an apartment at the Hover Manor senior community.
Survivors include one daughter, Amy Reinholds, and her husband, Caleb Roberts, of Lyons, Colorado, and cousins in the Chicago area. His parents and his wife preceded Mr. Reinholds in death.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m., in the Community Room of the Howe Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hover Manor at www.hovercommunity.org, or the Lyons Golden Gang at the Walter Self Senior Center at P.O. Box 1091, Lyons, Colorado 80540. Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary.
