The Lyons Redstone Museum has opened for the 2017 Season! Museum staff have been busy working behind the scenes over the winter to prepare for the 2017 season with new exhibits and activities. A fresh coat of paint and revamped exhibits in the hallway will greet visitors this year including displays highlighting the founding history of Lyons, the history of the school building, and the cultural history of Lyons.
Debuting Saturday, May 13, will be the new permanent exhibit Lyons Newspapers: A History. Join us for an open house reception 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., that evening to celebrate this new exhibit which recounts one hundred and twenty-six years of Lyons newspaper history with first editions from the collection, hands-on activities, and weekly news from the early 1900s.
On June 6, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will be the open house reception for the temporary exhibit Tiny Stories-The Art of the Dollhouse. The Redstone Museum is thrilled to be able to showcase a collection of dollhouses and miniatures created by Lyons’ resident Anne O’Brien. Come learn and discover how this exciting art form can usher you into another world.
July 11 will see the return of The Mighty, Mighty Camera Obscura to the lawn of the Redstone Museum. Popular in the early part of the 20th century the camera obscura was the virtual reality of its time. It will be the first in a series of History Talks at the museum to be held the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, July through September. July also sees the return of the popular Kid’s History Camp, July 31 to August 4 (register at 303-823-5271). It wouldn’t be July without celebrating LaVern’s birthday and this year is her 90th! Celebrate with LaVern and the Red Rock Ramblers, Saturday, July 22, and again with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday, July 23.
Museum hours: Weekends in May (Saturday 9:30 to 4:30, Sunday 12:30 to 4:30) Daily May 29 to October 1 (Monday through Saturday 9:30 to 4:30, Sunday 12:30 to 4:30)
