Friday evening (April 6), Planet Bluegrass opens the 2018 concert season in the indoor Wildflower Pavilion with the return of legendary fiddler Darol Anger and his all-star band Mr. Sun, along with special guests Meadow Mountain. Tickets are still available at (303) 823-0848, or shop.bluegrass.com.
Over the course of four decades, Darol Anger has helped drive the evolution of contemporary stringband music through pathbreaking ensembles such as the David Grisman
Quintet, Psychograss, and Turtle Island String Quartet. In his latest project, Mr. Sun, Darol is joined by fellow all-stars: mandolinist/vocalist Joe K. Walsh (a member of The Gibson Brothers for four award-winning years); guitarist Grant Gordy (a six-year member of the David Grisman Quintet); and spectacular young Scottish bassist Aidan O'Donnell.
“Mr. Sun radiates hi-tone improv that will actually drop your jaw... bluegrass and jazz and swing and everything else... from heart-tugging pastorally to the intensity of a solar flare tsunami.” - Tony Trischka.
Planet Bluegrass is also excited to welcome back the 2017 RockyGrass band contest winners Meadow Mountain open the show at 8 p.m. With their rich harmonies and “lyrics dripping with Colorado geography” - 303 Magazine, the Denver quintet has been featured in a TEDx talk, and named finalists in several prestigious band contests including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
Doors and the Wildflower Pavilion bar open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available at shop.bluegrass.com, (303) 823-0848, or at the door. The intimate, indoor Wildflower Pavilion is located on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch.
The 2018 Spring concert series continues in April with award-winning guitarist Molly Tuttle (Friday, April 20), and the high lonesome bluegrass of the Blue Canyon Boys (Friday, April 27).
