If you have thought about art classes and just haven’t gotten around to it, now’s the time to act! There are a wide variety of art classes being offered this summer at The Old Gallery in Allenspark, just twenty five minutes away from Lyons.
“All classes are appropriate for beginners, so it’s easy to let your inner artist out,” said The Old Gallery Executive Director Elisabeth Sherwin.
Two silk painting classes will be taught by Claudia Lewis of Full Circle Art & Design in Longmont, a lifelong artists and teacher with a Master’s degree in art
education. The silk painting classes take place on Saturday June 10 and Saturday, July 8. Each class is $50 plus a $10 materials fee. “Students will learn how to apply gutta resist and gorgeous procion dyes to silk,” said Lewis. “I’m thrilled to be teaching at The Old Gallery this summer. It’s a terrific venue for classes.”
Award-winning Boulder County artist Anita Jantz will teach a class in watercolors on Friday, June 16 and Friday, July 7 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Each class costs $60 plus a $15 materials fee, and students should bring a sack lunch. “This class is great for artists of all levels—even if you’ve never painted in watercolor before,” said Jantz. “I paint what excites me which is usually found in nature. I see colors abounding everywhere and I enhance these colors in my paintings for the viewers to see what I see.”
Master gourd artist Vicki Dyas will be teaching four gourd art classes this summer. A lifelong artist and teacher, she discovered her artistic home with gourd art more than 20 years ago. You’ll learn how to create a pine needle gourd on Friday, June 23, a “Gourdiva” on Saturday, July 21, a gourd instrument on Friday, August 18 and a gourd with alcohol ink coloring technique on Saturday, Sept. 16. All classes take place from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and students should bring a sack lunch. Class fees are $60 per class, plus a $15 materials fee.
“These are not craft gourd classes, but rather, true art classes. Students will love the high quality of the project they will take home with them,” said Dyas. You can view photos of the class projects online at www.theoldgallery.org.
“I’ve taken six of Vicki’s classes over the years, and every time I walk out with a gourd that I can’t believe I created! I am so proud to display them in my home,” said Allenspark resident Holly Bea-Weaver.
