The Lyons High School girls' basket ball team is having a great season. They upped their record to 11-1 on the season, are tied for first in their league, first in district, and currently ranked #1 among 2A schools in the most recent CHSSA RPI system! This will be important at the end of the season when the seeding takes place for regionals. The Lyons High School boys’ JV and C basketball teams played three very different games last week. On Tuesday, January 17, they faced a very strong Highland program (their varsity is ranked #1 in 2A). The Lyons High School varsity boys’ basketball team were on the road for two games last week. First they made the trek to Ault to take on the Highland Huskies on Tuesday, January 17; then it was off to the big city to try and wrangle the Mustangs of Denver Academy on Thursday, January 19. The Lyons High School Lady Lions traveled to Dawson last week, and had no problem handling the inexperienced Mustangs on their home court; easily winning the game 57to 23. Throughout the contest the Mustangs struggled against the ferocious Lions' press. Lyons' relentless defense picked apart the Mustangs offense getting over twenty steals that led to many easy buckets. The Lyons High School girls’ basketball squad is having their best start to a season in recent memory, winning ten games in a row. Last week the Lady Lions played three games, and beat each of the teams by twenty points or more. Bring on the University of Connecticut Huskies! In 2A they moved up in the CHSAA coaches poll from eighth to sixth, and the team is currently ranked second in the RPI rankings.
The Lyons High School varsity boys basketball team was scheduled to play a couple of away games to start the New Year. First up was Frontier Academy in Greeley on January 4; the weather was frightful, and the game has been rescheduled for a later date.
The second contest was played on Friday night against league rival Dawson School. The Lions have had a tough go against the ‘Stangs the last few years. As has been the case for the boys in games this year against Clear Creek, Estes Park, and Valley, the game was close;
