For the seventeenth year in a row for the boys, and sixteen out of the last eighteen years for the girls, the Bob Charles Trophies will remain in the Lyons Lions’ trophy case until (at least) the third Saturday in April next year.
The girls managed to compile thirty-four points, led by Ixchel Leeuwenburgh’s fifteen points from her fourth place finish in the shot put, and her first place finish in the discus, with a season and personal best throw of 114’ 8”! The Kuskie sisters finished third and fifth in the pole vault. Liz Jonjak-Plahn contributed two eighth place finishes in the shot and discus, and the 400 relay
(seventh), 800 Spring Medley (eighth), 1600 relay (eighth), and 3200 relay (sixth) rounded out the team scoring.
In a meet of this caliber and depth, great personal performances sometimes fail to earn a medal or ribbon, but no less than fifty-one season best efforts between the girls and boys, and a number of top-18 performances in the 2A state rankings, emphasizes the many excellent efforts and marks recorded at the meet.
On the boys’ side, the 3200 relay claimed a sixth place finish, Nate Christy responded with an outstanding effort to claim second in the 110 hurdles, Colton Jonjak-Plahn ran a great 800 race for fifth, and Isaac Roberts gave a gutsy effort in the 3200 to claim fifth as well. Those nineteen points were just enough, with the scoring factor, to hold off overall team champion Monarch in the Bob Charles adjusted scoring. The boys had three of the four relays record season bests to move higher in the state rankings.
In addition, CeAnn Udovich and Brenna Kuskie were both recognized for their strong accomplishments as student-athletes with $500 scholarships.
