Former Lyons High School (class of 2016) cross country/track standout Paul Roberts returned to Colorado earlier this week from a successful trip to Uganda for the IAAF U-20 World Cross Country Championships in Kampala. As the first American runner to cross the finish line (33rd place overall) in
a time of 25' 31” over the grueling 8K course, Roberts now a freshman at CSU-Pueblo, led the American team to a ninth place finish in the competition.
Earlier this year, in February, Roberts qualified for the team by winning the USATF Cross Country Junior Championship race in Bend, Oregon, and was named captain of the team just prior to the race in Africa. Two years ago he traveled to China for the World Championships, and has also competed in international races in Scotland as well numerous prestigious races across the U.S. Roberts is one of the most decorated high school runners in Colorado history, having won four straight State Championships in cross country, and several State Championships in track while at LHS.
