The JV Lyons High School boys’ basketball team had a fantastic game against Front Range Christian High School on Tuesday, February 7. The young Lions found themselves down at half-time 20 to 30, and it looked like the Falcons might fly away with the win. However, the
Lions clawed their way back and at the end of the third quarter and were up by two, 39 to 37.
The fourth quarter had many lead changes and finally ended in a tie sending the game to overtime. Both teams worked hard to take the lead. With fifty-two seconds left on the clock the game was tied at 50. Lyons ran time off the clock until Garrett Geist fed big-man Franklin Dorschel who made a great post move to score and put the Lions ahead by two.
With only six ticks of the clock the Falcons drove down the court. Lyons played tough defense on their dominant three-point shooter but the ball squirted lose and another player beat the buzzer with a three-point shot. Front Range players and fans stormed the court and it was a tough loss for the Lions who played an excellent game. David Brett was unstoppable with seventeen points while Finn Basey had a season-high twelve and Geist added eight in the loss.
The C team beat Front Range with a score of 30 to 22. Brett led the offense with eleven points while Harrison Abernathy added six and Geist five is the winning effort. The C team finished their season with a winning record.
The Lyons JV team never gained their rhythm in a shortened game against Longmont Christian on Friday, February 10. They lost the low scoring game 25 to 20. Jake Owens led the team in scoring with seven points while Brett added five in the losing effort.
