As the Lyons High School boys’ basketball season -winds down, the JV and C boys’ teams continue to improve and play unselfish basketball under the leadership of coaches Isaac Cisar and David Schoenherr. In mid-January, the young Lions dominated Denver Academy’s JV team winning
handily by a score of 36 to 13. Guard Jake Owens was on fire scoring a team-high thirteen points, while big men Finn Basey and Garrett Geist chipped in six apiece.
The C team played its final game of the season in a hard fought contest against a previously undefeated Denver Christian team. However, the eager Lyons squad prevailed spoiling Denver Christian’s undefeated season. David Brett had the hot hand in this game, scoring fifteen points while fellow guards Owens knocked down a half dozen points, and Jaiden Batts and Zavery Boyd with five points each helped contribute to the epic win.
The JV team did not fare as well, losing 53 to 39 to a talented Denver Christian team. The trio of guards Owens, Brett and Batts led the offense with nine, eight and six points respectively.
At the end of January, the JVs played one of their few home games of the season against Twin Peaks Academy. The junior squad had a solid performance controlling the game and won going away 32 to 22. Once again the guard trio of Brett, Owens and Batts led the offense.
The final contest of this two-week stint came down to the final minute of play after lead changes throughout. Unfortunately for the Lions, they came up a basket short losing to Dayspring Christian 36 to 34. The offense was well-balanced with eight players breaking into the scoring column. Batts continued his consistent offensive play with a team-high eight points, while Isaac Roberts notched seven, and Franklin Dorschel chipped in six points in the losing effort.
