Hello Readers!
I am Bella Alexander, student manager of our beloved Lyons High School volleyball team. Head coach, Heather Evans, asked me to share my role in the program and unique perspective from behind the scenes with you.

I had never thought of being a manager until this season. I played volleyball from eighth grade through my junior year. When senior year rolled

around, I felt hesitant to join. I wasn’t sure if playing was the right fit this year. Coach Maguire offered me the student manager position, which sounded like a great way to be a part of the team without playing. I accepted.

Since preseason back in mid-August, I have learned to take statistics in matches and practices, write articles, lead our ever-popular serving promotion during home matches, set up video analysis, and, my personal favorite, assist coaches in practice. I am continually amazed by all the work outside the gym that goes into high school athletics. It’s been really enjoyable and it has provided an experience I know will help me as I enter college next fall. There are so many transferable skills!

Thank you for taking the time to read this today. We hope to see you at our remaining home matches this season. Be sure to come down for the serving contest. Did I mention we give away prizes?
