The Lyons Middle School Lions took on the Estes Park Middle School Bobcats at home Thursday, October 12, for their final game of the season. While the older LHS Lions retained the “MacGregor Hammer” on October 6, against Estes Park, the younger Bobcats made the young opponents pay dearly, 32 to14, setting up a fierce rivalry for years to come.

Wyatt Bashor scored the Lions’ first touchdown of the game with a blistering seventy yard run down the side lines.  Ari Edelstein recovered the ensuing onside kick,  then Cole Rogers ran the ball into the end zone for another score. The Lions converted the two-point conversion, but their effort wasn’t enough to overtake the Bobcats.

“I’m really proud of how far the boys have come this year.  We’re a really young team.  It’s not easy going up against teams of eighth graders, but the boys have really done well,” said Steve Paznokas, assistant coach and offensive coordinator.

The Lions players and coaches were honored during halftime at Friday’s high school home game against Highland. Even though the season has ended, the team is already thinking about next year. Sign-ups will start in the May with a big recruitment push for players and additional coaches. Email coaches for more information at This email address is being protected from spambots.
