Dear Lyons Community,
The 18th Annual Lyons Community Barbecue will be held at Lyons High School before the first conference home football game on Friday, September 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., with kick-off time at 7 p.m. It was not planned this way, and was only by chance that this date happens to be the one-year anniversary of the devastating flood
that tore through the middle of the Lyons community.
Lyons Middle/Senior High School is proud to invite the entire extended community of Lyons to the school “on the island” to meet, talk, and reflect. Then we certainly hope everyone sticks around to cheer on the Lyons varsity football team as they take on the Front Range Christian, Falcons.
Our students here at Lyons showed us all the meaning of “resiliency.” They rose above the adversity of a historic natural disaster. The barbecue and football game is when Lyons shows the world that we will rise above as an entire community.
We are also hoping to start a new tradition involving past Lyons athletes that have lettered. It’s called the “Blue Line.” Dig out your old varsity jackets. It doesn’t matter the condition or if it still fits perfectly ( I like to think they have a habit of shrinking over the years). It doesn’t matter what sport you lettered in, or if you are a guy or a gal. Put it on for the game on September 12, and we will make a column for the football team to walk through as they take the field. The “Blue Line” will start inside the Hall of Champions and extend as far as the number of jackets that show up. This will show our football players that they are part of a proud tradition going back to the days of Coach, John ‘Jet’ Johnson.
No matter what your connection to Lyons is, I hope to see you at the 18th Annual Lyons Community Barbecue. It’s time to “Rise Above!”
